For some of you, committing to a gym can be challenging. At the start of the year gym memberships are at their peak. You have every intention in fulfilling this commitment but everyday life challenges get in the way. Here are 5 of the most common exercise excuses that we hear on a regular basis - but don't worry, because here at Eccentric we have come up with a solution to every excuse!

  1. I don't have time: This is a common excuse that is used regularly. If you really want to make time for something you will. Everyone has the same 24-hour days and it's all about how you manage it. Book your exercise into your diary and treat it like an appointment that you can't miss.

  2. I don't have the energy: You have to invest your energy in order to produce more energy. When you exercise you sleep better and recharge your batteries at much higher volts, so that the next day you will feel more energized.

  3. I can't afford to join the gym: Again, if you really want to afford something you will find a way to make it happen. Join a gym and find other ways of cutting down expenses that aren't as healthy. If you buy several coffees each day, try and cut down to four each week. Not only have you made a healthier lifestyle decision but you have justified the cost of your gym membership.

  4. I'm embarrassed by the way I look: Everyone at the gym has a common goal to get healthy and look great. Remember, you are the centre of your own universe and nine times out of ten other gym members are more concerned about themselves as opposed to worrying about what everyone else is doing.

  5. I'm too depressed: It has been scientifically proven that exercise releases endorphins and improves mental health. So get active and your mood will be dramatically elevated!
